Supporting the Trust
Back in 1971, members of the Conservation Federation of Missouri recognized the need to have a charitable foundation to which tax-exempt donations could be made for special projects. It would be able to accept large donations, grants, corporate gifts, bequests and memorials and tributes and put these donations to work for conservation while at the same time providing tax benefits for the donor.
It became a public foundation and today supports a range of conservation programs including scholarships, grants for conservation education and conservation research, mentoring programs, achievement awards, conservation education exhibits, Katy Trail support and much more. The Foundation is not a membership organization and with no member services to support and no full-time staff, most of the income generated is directed into these programs.
Initially, the Foundation’s major source of income was memorial contributions in lieu of flowers on the death of a distinguished conservationist. Other contributions were made to mark birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, or other occasion. Today, people find many other ways to support the Foundation.
Workplace Giving
Many people are choosing to support the Conservation Foundation through their annual employee workplace giving campaign. They contribute under payroll deduction plans or personal gifts to the Missouri Environmental Fund campaign which is a network of the state and nation’s most respected not-for-profit conservation and environmental organizations. The Conservation Foundation was a founding member of this statewide network and all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Federal employees may donate through the Combined Federal Campaign by using code 67305. Missouri State employees should use code 8407 in the State Workforce Giving Campaign.
